admissions
The classes for every academic year will commence during middle of July. The school prospectus together with necessary forms and a DVD of "A Day at school" can be obtained by sending a Demand Draft for US$10 or Rs. 500/ in favour of Good Shepherd International School payable at Ooty.
Admission Procedure for classes II to IX:
As a part of our long term planning, expansion and infrastructure development, we propose to have the following classes only with effect from:
| 2010 – 2011 - | Std II to Std XII |
| 2011 – 2012 - | Std III to Std XII |
| 2012 – 2013 - | Std IV to Std XII |
From the year 2012 onwards Good Shepherd International School will have classes only from Std IV to Std XII. This is to provide extra facilities to the students and to have all the students of the school on one campus.
All students will have to appear for an Aptitude Test in English, Mathematics (and Science for Grade VIII and IX) and Second language to qualify for admission. As a matter of policy we do not admit students in Grade X and XII. The Aptitude Test will be held in the school on any day convenient between March and June every year.
Admission will be confirmed only after assessing the performance of the child in the Aptitude Test and a personal interview with the respective Coordinators of the Class. On confirmation of admission, parents will be required to submit a Conduct Certificate from the existing school along with a Recommendation letter.
The question papers will be based on the general syllabi, not on the current textbooks. Kindly note that the child should be at least 7 years, for admission in Std II.
We do admit children during the middle of the academic year in the same class in which the child is studying in the previous school.
For International candidates / NRIs:
For prospective students from abroad, the Aptitude Test can be scheduled in the school (or in the Indian Embassy) where the student is studying provided the parents get a no objection certificate from the Head of the school / Embassy (and let us know the email address for us to send the question papers). The details will be sent to parents individually along with our call letter on receipt of registration form and fee from the parents.
For Class: XI
For admission in Class XI, parents are required to visit the school with the candidate for a personal interview and an Aptitude Test in English. The academic reports of classes VIII, IX and X along with a Character Certificate from the last school are mandatory for admission. Kindly note that admission for Grade XI and the choice of subjects / stream will be considered purely based on the results of the board exams and the stream taken.
It is very important that both parents of the student should visit the school for signing the documents and also ascertain the facilities offered by the school. Please note that the school does not encourage nomination of guardian for our students. Only non-resident Indian and foreign parents of students are permitted to specify one guardian for their children. Only parents (or authorized guardian in case of non-resident Indian and foreign students) whose name is entered in the school records at the time of admission, will be permitted to take the students out for mid-term break / vacation / outing etc. Parents of other students, family friends and local people cannot be considered as guardians.
It is also important that the child is prepared mentally to join a boarding school. There is an "Important Notice" regarding this, kept together with the other forms in the prospectus for careful perusal of the parent. We would like to ensure that both parents and children are absolutely happy with the school rules and regulations, system of functioning etc.
Our aim is to see that every child is happy once he/she joins the school and we expect the same from the parents also. We will not admit any child unless the father/mother or a responsible person from the family visits the school.
Our Academic calendar is from mid July to Mid May. We have got two terms per year. The first term is from mid July to mid December and the second term is from mid January to mid May. We have got two vacations in a year. One is winter vacation from mid December to third week of January. Second one is Summer vacation from mid May to mid July. For more details on yearly events, please go through the Academic Calendar.
The Registration Form downloaded from our website can be sent along with a Demand Draft for US$50 or Rs.2,000/- in favour of Good Shepherd International School payable at Ooty towards Provisional Registration to enable us to register your ward's name for admission. On successful completion of the Aptitude Test, you will have to pay the balance amount of US$200 or Rs.8,000/-. We wish to make it clear that registering the name of the child and attending interview will not ensure a seat for your ward as this depends solely on (1) the performance of the child in the interview and the Aptitude Test and (2) the vacancy position in the class for which admission is sought.
For information regarding fee payments and the formalities of admission to be completed, you are requested to kindly contact the Accounts Section / Admissions Office of the school over telephone (Tel Nos. 91- 423- 2550071).
