Indian chess prodigy wins triple crown in Biel Chess

New Delhi, July. 25 (PTI): Fourteen-year-old Indian chess wizard Arjun Vishuvardhan, has won the triple crown in the Biel International Chess festival now underway in Switzerland.

"Arjun, won the U-16 and U-20 sections in the Blitz International Championship in the festival and also won the gold in the Biel International Youth Chess Championship," Peter Burri, Technical Director of the Festival was quoted as saying in a press release.

Both the tournaments were held on July 23 and 24 and in the Blitz Open U-16 and U-20 were merged with the Grandmasters and the open section.

Enroute to the titles, Arjun, a student of Good Shepherd School in Ootacamund, Tamil Nadu, defeated International Masters E Roland and Hug Werner and held Israeli Grandmaster Vitali Golod to a creditable draw. More than 20 GMs and IMs took part in the Blitz championship.

"Arjun played brilliantly well in the Biel International Youth Chess championship and won the gold medal and trophy by scoring 8.5 points in nine rounds," Burri was quoted as saying.
